GitLab is a single platform for source control, CI/CD pipelines, package and container registries, security scanning and deployment. Pipelines are defined in a YAML file in each repository, and runners can be hosted by GitLab or run on your own machines and clusters.
GitLab Duo is its set of AI features, which help write code and pipeline config, explain failed jobs, summarize merge requests and explain security findings. GitLab is offered as a hosted service and as self-managed software, which matters for teams with data residency or air-gap requirements. Check which Duo features your plan includes and where model calls are processed before enabling them on private code. Many teams also use its security scanners in the same pipelines, so findings appear in merge requests before code is merged.
