Vantage
Cloud cost reporting across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Kubernetes and SaaS bills, with budgets, alerts and cost reports.
- Free plan or free tier
- Has an API
- Works with AWS
Cloud bills grow quietly. A test cluster nobody turned off, storage that keeps every old snapshot, or an instance family that was right three years ago can add up to a large share of spend. The tools in this category help teams see where the money goes, assign it to the people who own each service, and cut waste without slowing anyone down.
They come in a few kinds. Reporting tools such as Vantage, CloudZero and AWS Cost Explorer pull billing data together and break it down by account, service, tag, team or product. Commitment managers such as ProsperOps buy and adjust savings plans and reserved capacity to raise discount coverage. Kubernetes tools such as CAST AI rightsize nodes and workloads inside clusters, where cloud bills alone cannot show who used what.
Infracost shows the cost change of a Terraform pull request before it merges, which moves cost into code review instead of the monthly surprise. Platforms such as Harness and nOps combine several of these jobs, including scheduling idle resources to shut down out of hours.

Cloud cost reporting across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Kubernetes and SaaS bills, with budgets, alerts and cost reports.
AWS's built-in tool for viewing and forecasting spend by service, account and tag, with recommendations for savings.
Shows the cost change of a Terraform pull request before it merges, so cost becomes part of code review.
Cloud cost platform that maps spend to products, features and customers so teams can see unit costs.
Kubernetes automation that rightsizes nodes and workloads and can shift to cheaper instance types to cut cluster costs.
AWS cost optimization platform covering commitments, rightsizing and scheduling, with cost visibility for engineering teams.
Manages cloud commitment discounts such as savings plans and reserved instances automatically to raise coverage.
Cost visibility, budgets and automated idle-resource shutdown for cloud and Kubernetes, part of the Harness platform.
AI features here usually explain spend in plain language, flag anomalies or recommend changes. None of it works well without good tagging and a clear account structure, so plan those first. Check which billing permissions each tool needs, whether it can change resources or only report, and how savings-based pricing is calculated before you sign.
Cost work goes best as a shared habit rather than a one-off cleanup. Give each team a view of its own spend, review the biggest changes each month, and add a short cost check to architecture reviews for new services. Commitments such as savings plans give large discounts but lock you in, so buy them for steady baseline usage and leave spiky or uncertain workloads on demand. Watch data transfer and managed service fees as closely as compute, since they are easy to miss and hard to reduce later. When a tool reports a saving, ask how it was measured and whether it accounts for the work needed to make the change. A tool that finds real savings but gives engineers no easy way to act on them will produce reports that nobody reads after the first quarter. Pair every recommendation with an owner and a date, and track how much was actually saved.
Start with visibility: make sure accounts and tags map to teams and services, then use a reporting tool or the provider's own cost explorer to find the biggest items. Cut obvious waste before buying commitments.
Cluster bills show machines, not workloads. Kubernetes cost tools measure what each namespace or workload requests and uses, then divide the cost so each team sees its share.
It can be, for well-understood actions such as scheduling dev environments off at night. Start in report-only mode, agree on rules, and keep production changes behind approval.
Tools such as Infracost add a comment to a pull request showing how much a Terraform change will add or save each month, so reviewers see cost before the change ships.
